if the cap is removed

If the cap is removed, how long will it take before the cis can issue green cards to us?

give them at least one year to clear the backlog. they are not the most efficient people around and they also need to complete background checks on asylees before granting adjustment.

the latest words are that they could finalize the law this afternoon.

I think if its removed..it should fall under the same processing as refugees(who have no cap)..currently they are processing applications applied in 01/2003 for refugees..almost 2.5 year gap...

This is also a good point.

Too too long ago the USCIS released some kind of blueprint saying that they were going to cut down on their processing times. They said this many times before and failed. Maybe this time will be different. After all, Bush promised in 2000 that cases should be processed within 180 days.

Hello, wantmygcnow:
I am new in this group. Hello everyone :)

One questions: What do ND and RFI stand for?
ND = PR application?

I applied for PR in June 2001 just like you. Did FP in 09/2004.
When will we get GC with or without the cap removed in the Real I.D. Act?

Thanks.

ND - MAY 2001
FP - June 2004
RFI - MARCH 2005

ND=Notice Date(its on your receipt for I-485)
RFI=Request for Initial Evidence.

You should get your G.C by this time next year..I am hoping I get mine the before Sep 2005 but in reality it will be before Sep 2006.

ND = notice date ( the notice about your application)
RFE= Request for further evidence
Good luck. As it stands now, you have a very good chance of getting your green card within 2 years.

Shamed USA who claims people having human rights here.

Thanks a lot shamshon.

Still need 2 years? That's terrible. I entered US in 08/1991, applied for asylum in 04/1993 and got final approval in 05/2000. 7 years of pending. :(

If I finally get the damned green card in 2007, it'll costs me total 16 years to go through this tortured process. :(

Shamed USA who claims people having human rights here. The only damned right I have here is to pay the tax. :(

No, it's not that bad. I found happiness here. Everybody paying taxes. Don't expect to get more rights when u'll become citizen. That status will not make u richer or poorer.

Do you mean that within 1 year, we would get our GC?

Thank you, wantmygcnow!

My ND was June 2001. Yours was May 2001. However, you got your RFT already, but I haven't. So you are faster than me now.

Do you mean that within 1 year, we would get our GC?

Good luck to us. I am in Michigan by the way. I have been living in US legally for 14 years.

My ND is Jan. 2001 and I have not received anything yet. According to online updates, my case was updated on Aug. 2004 when I had my fingerprints done. :confused:

Guess what, I'm in the same or close to position as you are. Entered the States 08/91, applied for asylum 01/93, approved by Immigration Judge 03/04. Next goes as everybody else.

You know I have to share something with you. I applied in 92 and got the green card in 2003, so my process took 11 years. I was very angry and discouraged the same way you are now. The truth is that I initially idealized this country and expected everything to be smooth and easy. However, I was shocked to discover that there is injustice here too. Nevertheless, this country is the best humans can offer. I can feel free to bash Bush as I wish and I can whine about the way I am treated as a minority. This is not possible in other countries, including European countries- which deport immigrants by the thousands everyday. Despite all the pain and agony, we are lucky to be here. My friend just visited her home country. She could not breathe there and wanted to come back as soon as possible. As soon as you get your green card, your whole outlook will change. Good luck my friend and wish that you get your green card soon. Remember, our children are the future of this country not Lou Dobbs’

There are tens of thousands of such pending cases which were filed prior to January 4, 1995. In INS lingo there are the "pre-reform" cases to which they attach low priority. It really sucks if you have a strong case and want it adjudicated yesterday so that you can obtain the protection for which you came to America. I guess it is good if you have a weak case since you get your work permit every year and can hope for the best.

Not to scare anyone but is it true, for me at least. At first I failed interview, after being not sure of outcome but already integrated fully in great U.S. of A. as many of as are and I mean fully I worked with lawyer on my case and won. What next. Will I get green card sooner - no, backdated - no (I hope, if it matters), years of lost opportunities being American as I already are in my mind NOT. Still I'm grateful.
