iEAD without receipt?

Hello,

I applied for my EAD renewal in the first week of Jan through my company lawyer, but havent received anything from INS. No receipt... nothing! My current EAD is going to expire next month.

Has anyone tried applying for iEAD just with the cancelled check, but without the actual receipt. My lawyer says its possible (see her mail below).

Just little curious , What is this canceled check funda ? Is it that INS canceled your check since it was "What/Why"
SO if INS does not have the processing fees of EAD then how it is possible that they will issue iEAD on that ?
 
It means encashed check, which finally ends up with the bank of the person who made the payment.
