Got an IEAD pending RFE on EAD
I managed to get an interim EAD when an RFE was pending on my EAD. RFE was for signature card. I took my offer letter from the company which I am suppose to join using the AC-21. When the person there told me that iEAD could not be issued because of RFE and also the 90 day counter starts from the day the INS receives the response for the RFE, I told her that I have an offer and would like to meet the INS officer. After 10 minutes argument with the officer, he agreed to issue me an interim EAD but only for 90 days.
Hence I strongly feel that if you have a valid reason for the interim EAD, go talk to the officer there. But expect resistance at each stage. Hope this helps.
