iEAD infopass knew that EAD approved 7 days ago

My time line as below. It's funny but also relief. I checked my online status every day, since I've never seen anything changed on my status, I planned to get my iEAD today. I went to DO in Bloomington, MN. Almost an hour earlier than infopass scheduled time. Went through the security, I let them knew that I was an hour early, but they still let me pass the security and gave me a waiting number.
After I went to the infopass area, it's just like bank or some DMV, we sat in the center of the room, there're around 7-10 counters, exactly just like a DMV. There're boards shown which waiting number they were processing. After 5 minutes of waiting, my number were shown on the board. I went up to the counter, the woman asked for my infopass sheet. I told her I need to apply iEAD since I did not get my EAD after 90 days from my RD. I gave her my NOA, she asked to see the I-485 one for my A# (there's no A# on I-765). After she keyed in the number, she told me my EAD already got approved on 5/25. They're ordering a card for me and waited to be printed. I should receive my EAD card in a few days. I thanked her and said goodbye. We went out the building in 15 minutes.

I felt funny because they had never bothered changing my status online, I also called 800 number, still same information. I had to drive all the way to the city to get notified. No matter what, that's what I wanted to know non the least. It's better than they sent me home without anything accomplished. I am also in great relief, because I know I will be able to work soon.

Just another funny story to share. No question asked this time. Thanks for reading it. You all have a wonderful day. :D

Congrats on your approved EAD! :)
Did the lady say anything about not being able to get an iEAD yet since you had an RFE? Just wondering.

That's great! Looks like the RFE did not delay your EAD too much. At least it was approved within 90 days. I had an LUD on my I-130 and I-765 Yesterday (without any message update). Seems too early for me to hope for approval soon (only a month since ND), but at least someone is doing something with my application.

Thanks Patty! No, the woman did not mention anything about RFE. She just told me right away my EAD already got approved on 5/25 after keying my A#. I was surprised to hear that. Because I was also very worried about my RFE would seriously delay my process. I read quite a few cases that earlier than my RD, they all got their RFE, and their EAD without too much delay. So I guess just have to be extremely patient with CIS processing.

I guess it is more of a sad truth, than a funny story with USCIS. The truth is that you can't trust the online status messages as there is a big disconnect between that and the reality. Take my example where I got the status message that my AOS interview was cancelled and will be rescheduled 2 weeks before the interview though my interview went through successfully on the day of appointment. I have read on this forum that the same thing happened to many people including monstrita. The second part of the truth is that the 800 number is as useless as a broken record. There is absoulutely nothing new you can learn by calling that number and waiting for hours except whatever you can find out online or through this status message. The only thing you can do with that number is probably something like change of address, which is not even guaranteed unless you send the AR-11 form too. Again, take my experience where I called up 2 or 3 times to fix 2 spelling errors in my last name on the EAD notice. That was never fixed and I finally got the EAD with the same errors which I didn't bother to fix. In the end, if you want to find out any information about your case, you should either setup an infopass appointment or call your local representative, who might be able to help you.

Well, I hope you get your EAD soon. I got mine within a week of it being approved. Good luck!

sgsnathan, I can't agree with you more. That is the bloody truth. All I can suggest is to be patient and optimistic. Prepare for lots of delays and lack of status update. Look at this way, that's the hard task a country can give to us to become their citizen and enjoy their benefit and duty as citizen.

Those are good news!!! I would say that if you don't get the EAD in a week or so you should go get your iEAD. That was you can have it in your hand right then and there.
Just in case it get's 'lost' or something.

Payala, Thanks for the suggestion. I do hope I will get the card within a week. I do not want to go back and try to get that iEAD. That will be ridiculous. Because the woman even comfirmed my address with me before I left. I kinda think, they actually put the card printed after my today visit. Because they might just need somebody to remind them, there still a case like this out there. Just a reasonable thought there. I saw you got your card 10 days before my card approved. And your RD is 8-10 days ahead of me. I do think I will have the card by next week. :D Keep my fingers crossed.

Oh well, a quick update. Today 6/3 (Saturday), I received the actual approval emails (I got 5 same message emails at once @_@, who knows what's wrong with the email notification thing) at 8:16am. I was quite surprised and very pumped too at the same time. The message said as below:
----
Current Status:
On May 31, 2006, after approving your application, we ordered you a new card. Your card will be mailed to you as soon as it is ready.
----
I felt somehow odd. Because in my infopass on 5/31 to obtain iEAD, the infopass woman told me my case was already approved on 5/25. But in the message said my case was approved on 5/31. I guessed they probably actually started the action to print and mail me EAD while I was there. Otherwise who knows how long they are going to delay till. I am still happy I went to the infopass to just get things started. (worse saying is get their butt moving) I am also very happy that now I actually had the official approval notification from CIS. Hopefully, the card will get to my hand by the beginning of next week. That will be so wonderful. Working is coming to me finally!!! Money~~ $___$
