You have to show them that you applied for an EAD 3 month earlier and you have not get it yet. If this is not the case, show them a document from your employer explains the importance of this EAD and that you will be TERMINATED if you did not get one.

go early. by the way, if you are in the second category (did not apply 3 month earlier), they will try to kick you out before you enter. this starts from the doorman lady in the first floor. Insist and show your supporting document and show confidence. if you are in the first category, you will be fine.
