iEAD for L2 at San Jose Local Office experience

Today, Tuesday, I went to the SJ INS office at 12:30pm looking for
information about getting iEAD for my wife as a L2. Her EAD application
was more than 90 days (Receive Date: March 11, 2002 -
Notice Date: March 12, 2002).

I wanted to find out all info first before going to the office tomorrow
at 2:00 AM as advised by some of the entries in this forum

To my surprise, there was only about 20 people in the waiting room, I went
up to the info booth and they said that they were still giving out numbers.
(They did not give me a number saying that only applicant can get a number)

I called my wife and she went up there at about 1:15pm. Showed them the
the EAD notice and got the number A74 (currently serving A61).
They wanted passport or driver license for ID.
We filled out another I-765, did not pay any fee, and within the hour,
my wife is called in to do the paperwork and take the picture - total 15
minutes. We had to wait until 2:55 to get the card. Total time: 2:30.

My advise:
1/ INS still gives out iEAD, at least for L2
2/ Stop by and get a number if you can. No need to wait from 2:00 am

another iEAD experiences at San Jose

Phong, I was there on the same day(6/11), but I arrived there at 10:35am and received my iEAD card at 2:55pm, so you and you wife visited there at the best timing on that day !!

Here are our iEAD experiences.

6/11 myself
10:35am 10 people in line outside
11:00am got the number A057 at Window #13
(4 windows open, A049 being served)
12:00pm only one window open, A054 served
12:50pm called at Window #1, then starts waiting again (for IBIS)
1:10pm another windows re-open (totally 3-4 opened)
2:30pm called at Window #1 again, then dropped documents at EAD corner (The attached receipt saied "I765 NoFee $0.00".)
2:45pm took picture, fingerprint, signature
2:55pm got my iEAD card

6/14 my daughter
12:20pm arrived and could enter in a few minutes (A084 served)
1:25pm got the number A110 at Window #13 (A094 served)
2:10pm called at Window #9
2:15pm submitted the document to the CASHER, but not charged
3:10pm called at Window #9 again, then dropped the document at EAD corner, soon took picture, ...
3:15pm got her iEAD card
After that, we went to SSA office in San Jose downtown to apply her SSN.

Actually, I didn\'t need my iEAD, but my daughter needed hers.
We had been hoping to get it by the end of June, but we gave up waiting and decided to get iEAD.
