I filed I130 for my parents the problem is I.m not making enough money and can meet the poverty guidelines for I864.My question is Can my parents use or show their own financial assets in order to prove that they will not be a public charge to the US government?Because I think the reason why affidavit of support is a requirement is because the US govt just want to make sure that a beneficiary or intending immigrant will not be a public charge.I don't have enough income and savings and assets so is it possible that my parents use and show their own assets as proof they can support themselves and will not be a public charge? Please Help Me... Thanks

I am NOT totally certain about this, but I think they can if they are already living with you - BUT IT'S A LOT OF WORK - specially if the asset is located outside of USA. They will need to show that the value of the assets is at least 5 times the amount needed to meet poverty guideline after your income. Also, the value of the assets needs to be professionally appraised, and the assets must be in "readily convertible to cash" condition.

If you look over the 1-864 form, there is a section that allows the intending immigrant to list their own income, assets, etc.

But as VisaNutz says, any assets must be 5 times the amount of the poverty guidelines and easily convertible into cash. Also, any income made from a job, must be a legal source (no "under the table" jobs, etc.)
