I864 and income

Folks,
My spouse is filing for green card for her parents. She had enough income in 2013 to qualify on her own, but not enough in 2012, 2011 and 2010. I qualify for 2013-2010. What's the best solution in this case?
Should my wife only file for i864, or should both of use file I864 each, she as a primary and me as a joint sponsor.

She will need to supply proof of income -- employer letter and recent paystubs, and her 2013 W2 or 1099. Also a copy of her 2013 tax return if she filed already it (but this is not mandatory if filing the I-864 before the April 15 filing deadline).

Do they do income verification or anything?

Their investigators can verify with the employer or IRS if they suspect her income-related documents are not genuine.
