I485 Status Inquiry

Hello All,

I have made an appointment on April 4, 2005 with San Franciso office at 444 WASHINGTON STREET, San Francisco, CA 94111 to inquire about our I485 status.

I spoke to my lawyer and requested him to follow up with USCIS regarding I140 status. The lawyer is not co-operative and not going to inquire about I140. He is advising me not to go ahead and inquire regarding my I485! As per him, this may mess up the case!!!!

I don't see any logic in his reply to me. But just for curiosity, I would like to know your opinion on the following:

1. Should I still go ahead and inquire about my I485 status?
2. Would it delay my case?
3. Has anyone done their I485 status inquiry in person and got any feedback?
4. Any pros-cons would be greatly appreciated.

was your case transferred to local office if not how does this work. anything can mess-up a case at uscis. Did you try the congressman and senators to look into your case. i am not sure what additional information can you get which you can't get through the emergency#. if the case is stuck in name check it is stuck not much can be done other than sending email and snail mail to FBI. writing snail mail to Mr. Hardy has helped a few people on this board. i did it too and my FBI name check was completed shortly after that - not sure if it was coincidence or there is any substance to it.
 
california_gc i correct, first make sure that ur name checks are cleared, otherwise you are not getting any out of the appointment. Without name checks cleared they wont even touch your file.

949-389-3007 thats the number i called to check on your status, the first time around the lady asked me if this was an emergency and refused to speak further...
the second time around the lady did NOT even bother to ask me if it was an emergency and straight away asked for A# /WAC#,
dont get disheartened if the lady is rude, call after some time and some one else will answer the phone.

My case is not transferred to local office (at least to the best of my knowledge). Since my lawyer is unwilling to initiate inquiry, I would like to do it on my own. My approach is:

1. Contact USCIS in person and see what's causing the delay
2. Wait for a "reasonable" time frame and after that contact Congressman
3. If no luck yet, then contact Senator

I did not send any email to FBI for inquiring about "Name Check" as I am still not sure whether the name check is pending or not. I'll try to find this out when I go in person on April 4, 2005.

Could you please post the email of Mr. Hardy so that I can send an email to him?

The phone number that i mentioned is that of USCIS not of FBI, it does not take much to make a call(s) and find out...it will definitely save u a trip plus any hassle that might happen just because u decided to visit them in person.
 
My I140 got approved today!

Hello All,

Just received two emails regarding my I140 approval.

As per California_GC and donkeyKong's advise, I have cancelled my in-person appointment with San Francisco office and would wait for some time to see whether my I485 gets approved or not.
