I485 self petition

I have posted this question in the I485 thread, but it seems that
most people there use lawyers (maybe EB2 and EB3 applicants
have company lawyers do it).

I have looked through I485 forms and procedures and
found it rather routine. I am wondering why so many people
spending thousands of dollars to hire a lawyer to do that.

I guess many people reading this thread may have done
self-petition. Are there any caveates in addition to filling
those required forms? Any advice?

It would be great if someone could offer a sample of the
cover letter for I485.

My I140 specified Consular Processing, now I decide to go
through I485. I was told that I could just file I485 without
doing anything else. Is this right?

Many lawyers only offer a package - I-140 and I-485 together. In fact every lawyer I priced out does exactly that.
