I485 related question.

Hi, H1B1 Visa on my passport has expired. I did not get the stamping for the extension done by the same company. Is it OK to apply I-485 ?
Does I-485 application mandates valid VISA in stamping passport ?
what should I fill in VISA number column in I-485 application ?
I appreciate any inputs regarding this issue.

Siva,

I guess your status is illegal now .Save your skins man!To reconfirm , check the date on your I-94, if it is in the past then certainly you are illegal!! Forget about filing I-485, you first think on how to maintain your status and evade deportation.

If you are on H1b then:

1. Do you have new approval?
2. Do you have I-94 with on the bottom left hand-side of Notice Of Action(797)?
3. Is the date on item 2 > todays date?

If all three are yes - you are not out of status. In that case you should be able to file 485 - but for good measures - get it revalidated ASAP, if in case you get RFE for same.

Thanks a lot for your replies. My I-94 on H1B extension is valid and I am in status.
My lawyer mentioned the same as some of the replies below "last VISA number used at the port of entry into USA".
