HELP!!! I485 outside the processing time married to US citizen

Hi,
I married a US Citizen about three years ago and I had my AOS interview on March 2004. My finngerprint was taken on June 6,2004 and my case has been pending since. I have been going to the local office to enquire about my case and I keep getting the same answer, "background check still pending". When I check my case on line I get the following message:

On June, 2004, the results of your fingerprint review for your I485 Application to Register Permanent Residence or to Adjust Status were received, and processing has resumed on your case. We will mail you a notice if further action is needed, or when a decision is made.

When I check my case status over the phone, I get the same type of message but with an additional message indicating my case is at the Vermont Service Center.

I finally got sick of waiting ( mind you more than 2.5 years) and contacted my senator. He made an enquiry and told me that my case is not at Vermont but at the local (Kansas City office) at the USCIC Investigation unit. He said it has nothing to do with FBI name check or Finger Print Check. That was all he could get out of them.

I am very confused. What should I do? Is this normal? I am just worried that my file is sitting on some dusty shelf. Please help...

where is your DO and your nationality. How was your interview how did it go two years ago? Are you still married to the USC and do you presently have kids?

yes I am still married to my husband and do not have any kids. My interview went well. It was held at Kansas City and I am from Kenya. The IO indicated that she believed us and everything was in order. She even took my i 94. Please help.. I am so desperate...

Well, what did the senator say? What is the reason of the delay?

They just told him my file is at the Investigation Office and they will contact me when they are done. They did not give him any more info like how long will it take? when was the last time it was looked at? nothing.. I am very confused. Are there any cases like mine outthere.. what do you guys suggest I do..?
