I485: ??EB2 and EB3 and Notice Dates??

Could anyone clarify if it matters if one is on the EB2 or the EB3 catagory at the I485 stage? If yes, any ideas which group is doing better (faster)? I understand that the INS considers the notice date and not the reciept or the priority date at this stage....correct?
