I485 approved!

Hello everybody, just wanted to let you know my wife and I got our I485s approved, 5 yrs on the money from the beginning of our NIW.

Pleasantly surprised with the experience, the day before approval the USCIS officer called in person to update us on our cases, was very chatty and friendly, left his own cell # to call in case we don't get our GC in mail in a week! He said we were lucky we got approved at the beginning of the month, as they print GCs only once a month somewhere in Virginia (and he laughed at them, saying they are saving on electricity by doing that). Sure thing, the next day the LUD changed and the message said the case had been approved.

Happy ending here, absolutely trouble free, not a day over 5 yrs!

Hope all goes well with everybody else in here,

Good luck,
Catone

Congratulations

Congratulations. I was thinking about doing NIW but I spoke to my lawyer the other day after my PERM got approved. I was surprised to know that the USCIS has become quite efficient lately and I may get my I-485 approved (PERM based, EB-2) as early as December, 07! (I am not subject to retrogression by the way.) I came away from the conversation elated and hopeful. I am keeping my fingers crossed!

congratulations, its time to celebrate

but, one question first. When did you send your 5 yr completion letter(the blue form) and the health exam?

I haven't sent anything like a 5 yr completion letter (but my lawyer might have, I don't know) and the health exam was done about 18 months ago.

Now, there's been some new developements: my wife and I got our cards as the INS guy said on Monday but mine has the "resident since date" showing 10/30/00 and not 2006, so I called NSC and got directed to local USCIS office for passport stamping. Once there, the INS officer at the window said they don't do stamps anymore. He looked thru my file and than said that everything matches with their database!! He conceded that it was obviously a mistake from their part since my I485 PD was 09/2003, but that was nothing wrong with the green card itself. He said to keep it and use it for travel as needed and meanwhile he will request my file to be sent over so he could make the necessary changes.

Could I file for citizenship now since I'm resident since 2000? :)

Congratulations on your green card!

I am confused though. For NIW, the I-485 is not adjuducated until all the evidence is submitted like W2s for past 3 or 5 years. Did your attorney ask for all your previous W2s? ;that is if you think your attorney submitted the required documents for you? You should probably double check with your attorney.

Congrats. I guess you lucked out that he got an immigration officer who even called. This is probably one of those rare things as i have never heard anything like this. Usually for NIW they send you two RFE, first one is asking to provide evidence of 1 year completion and then end rfe for to provide evidence of 5 year completion. I guess when you submitted medical exam you provided them with evidence of completion of 5 years.
