I20 and re entry

i am on F1 visa but due to some university mishaps i unknowiningly exceeded work hours and have been in violation of f1 rules !
uni has asked me to leave country for 1 month and re enter on new F1 which they will issue. My visa (f1) will be valid.
howere my i20 will void and i will get a new one !
i was told this would be entered on SEVIS -
please advise if re entry from canada on new I20 and valid is a problem !

You have two choice , to get reinstated by ins, by prooving them a very very valid reason (why did you over exeeded the hours) , secondly leave the country and then come back on new i-20, there is not a time limit, you just have to leave and re-enter, if i will be you i will aply for reinstament and show them i was not knowing the rules, but its hard , you should leve the country and then come back on same visa, that has better chances.wish you best of luck
