I140 in security check

my lawyer says my I140 is in security check . That's what NSC told them when my lawyer called. Now that does makes sense why my I140 is pending since 5/5/06 even though their website says they are processing cases of 08/2006
I have few questions related to it
1) security check is same as name-check ? does it go to FBi and how much time it takes ?
2) how do i know for sure that indeed is the case? NSC won't talk to me everytime I call them.
3) what can be done to speed up the process ? does perm help ?
4) any idea on timeline to clear security check ?

Sorry to hear about your security check. There is a thread for I-140's in security check. Its only a couple of unlucky one like us who get caught in this.

so what is the alternate....I see it can take YEARS and YEARS.. ??? is that true ?
will applying perm help ?
