I140/I485 questions

Recently got my LC approved. My case is EB2 priority date July 2004.
My attorney suggests to file I-140 and I-485 seperately. I have a few
questions. If I file I-140 first, when can I file I-485, if my priority
date is still current. Do I need to wait until my I-140 is approved or
can I file I-485 when I get a I-140 receipt number or something like
that?

Any help is highly appreciated.
