Hi,

I have a GC since Aug 2000. Last year I have applied 1130 Immigrant petition for my wife who is back home, PD 23 SEP 2004. A few days ago I received a letter from the VSC approving the petition. The letter says, "that we (VCS) has sent the original visa petition to the Department of State National Visa center (NVC), 32 Rochester Ave, Portsmouth, NH 03801-2909. NVC processes all approved immigrant visa petitions that need consular action. It also determines which consular post is the appropriate consulate to complete visa processing. The NVC will contact the person for whom you are petitioning (beneficiary) concerning further immigrant visa processing steps.

If you have any questions about the visa issuance, please contact the NVC directly. However, please allow at least 90 days before calling the NVC if your beneficiary has not received correspondence from NVC."

My questions:
1- what does this mean my wife will be able to get her visa in the near future and come to the USA or this is just a start of another long wait, I was under the impression that these kinds of petitions take 3- 4 years! This one indicates that the next step is within 90 days!
2- I expect naturalization in the near future, how does my naturalization affect my wife's case? Did I make a mistake by applying for my wife before naturalization or not? Any insights?

Thanks.

i think your wife visa application has been approved but she needs to wait until the visa quota is being available for her country (since you are a GC holder and she is subjected the visa quota restirction per country).

"what is consular processing? any where I can read about it? is it faster/better?"

Consular processing is called DCF (Direct Consular Filing) wherein a case is filed and processed in US embassy/consulate at aborad. I don't have time right now to tell you EVERYTHING about it, but I'm sure if you do a search over this board then you will be able to find a lot of postings about it. Or someone might quote those postings for you.

Whether it is faster/better or not then it depends which country is in question. If beneficiary is living in abroad then it is better. Some US consulates are taking faster than others, for example in India it is very quick. Also, US embassy has its own rules on this, which need to be followed before someone can do DCF.

Good Luck

If you do not want to receive private messages, it is simple. You may disable the private messaging system by selecting “User CP” -> “Setting & Options” -> “Edit Option” -> “Messaging & Notification” . I hope it helps.

Good Luck. :)
