I Won Dv2008 But I Don"t Know What To Do.

hello,

I'm currently in UNITED STATES. My status if F1(ie student). On April 13 th i received a notification from Kentucy that i was a possibble DV 2008 winner. Along with the letter i received DS 230 and DSP 122. My case no is AS****6***.

Than after 3 days, I sent the three forms back to the address provided. since, i am in US, I wrote " BCIS" to adjust my interview here in US.

I'm 19 years old. i have no idea about the other procedures. i do not know whether the second letter comes or not and when i was going through the thread, i saw that filing early could be worst!!

Did i do right thing? Please help me out and if possible, could you please tell the next steps for the process. i do not have anyone in USA and my parents are paying for my education from my Country.

actually, in the form DSp-122, it had said that, if u r going to adjust without returning to your country than print " BCIS"
that's what i did.

when will be my number "current"? Do i have to send them i-485 when my number becomes current?
pls..help

Based on the past few years results, your case number will not be current until about June 2008. You should search this forum for as many experiences as possible in AOS and CP. I personally did AOS but if I had to do it over again, I would have chosen CP. My detailed account of AOS for DV2006 can be found at

04/20/2007 : 1st notification received
04/23/2007: form Ds 230 and DSP 122 sent to KCC
what next.....
do i have to wait till my case number becomes current so that i can submit my AOS or will i get notification within 1 or 2 months from KCC to file my AOS?

suggestion appreciated!
 
1- Please read all articles here about AOS, they are really helping..

2- You received a notification that 'you are a possible DV 2008 winner'? Is it exactly written on the letter?

You'll get a letter from KCC telling you that they are aware of your intent to file for AOS. They will NOT tell you when to file AOS. You should wait until your number is current to file. However, make sure you prepare your forms well in advance (especially since your number is on the higer side), because it can take a while to assemble all the supporting evidence. Anecdotally, some people have filed several months before their number was current and had no problems BUT there have been others who filed early and had their applications rejected. It's probably safest to wait until your number is current. It will be a painful wait until your number is current, probably a year of waiting, but hang in there. Good luck.
 
they said that my number will be active after october 1st. So, i don't have anything to do till then. They told me that, i may get another letter inbetween after they review that i have filed AOS....regarding further instruction.....
is that the same case with u
 
hey, saurav! congrats. is ur case # AS6*** or AS6**? if the last # is around 600, then ur case will be current in October and AOS is gr8. if it is around 6000, then u might have to wait 1 yr before u can file I485. (AS6*** for DV2007 will be current in June, u see!). in that case CP wud be better. but of course there is this risk of ur F1 being cancelled if u r denied GC in KTM. do the research. there are a lot of info in this forum. wish u all the best.

Congrats, saurav!
And, relax. You did everything right.
Like researcher said, next you will get a letter from KCC about the receipt of your forms and that your case will be handled by USCIS from now on. Then you will pay the $375 fee (it's in the instructions). And only after your number becomes current you will file your AOS package.
You were given the website address by researcher29 to check the current visa bulletin. Let us know if you have any questions about it.
Do check the other link you were given: http://www.immigrationportal.com/showthread.php?t=215048. You'll find a lot of helpful info there, answers to most of your questions.

i was pretty scared..but u really relaxed me.
I knew that my case is going to be current in October. So, i just have to wait for the receipt from KCC.
i think everything will be explained in the receipt when i get it. But, could u pls tell me when will be the appropriate time to pay $375? as i am going to file AOS, I 458 only in october?

i didn't wanna do CP coz, i dun wanna risk my F1 at any cost. I would be happy not to be granted GC in that case.

and r u frm Nepal as well?

i want ask u about the explain letter is it a confirmation letter that mean that they have receive the form ds230... or a second letter that contain the document that you have to prepare and interview date..
and another question ow can we know if they can accepte as

Congratulation:

I'm also from Nepal and DV2007 Winner, I had adjusted my status on Jan/2007 and I was in H1b.

If your rank number is over; 6000 your case only be current on May/Jun 2008 not in October 2007. I had file my AOS package little early then my number become current and they returned all of my pacege and I had resubmit again when the number become current and Adjust the case successfully. So be careful to submit your number become current. Just prepare the document and be ready when the number become current. I'm happy to assist you and you could contact me if you need any help.

I sent the forms DSP-122 to KCC requesting for AOS but have not received any reply from them.It has already been about 6 weeks that I have sent the package.When I called the KCC they say that it takes 6-8 weeks to process the package.But freinds here in the forum say that they received the second notification letter for AOS within 15 days...

Please help me I am worried.

Nah, it took 2 months before i got the Letter from KCC stating that i would have to deal with USCIS from now on.
