I am an American citizen and will be petitioning for my parents next month. They overstayed their visas and live here but in a different state than I. Do I have to file the petition in the state that I live or in the state that they currently live in? Any help would be greatly appreciated! By the way Can I file for them at the same time? or do I have to petition for one and then for the other? Both my parents are over 50 years old and are married.

one is not eligible to apply for adjustment of status if they overstayed the visa.

consult good immigration lawyer immediately and discuss the options.

petition for each eligible person

you will need to file a visa petition for each of your parents.
your parents appear to be not eligible to adjust status in this country and may have to use consular processing.

A good immigration attorney will be needed if they want to try the I-485 route while in the US.

If your parents are willing to use Consular Processing, the visa petition is filed with the Service Center for your state.
If your parents wish to try for a green card with the I-485 the whole package(i-130, I-485, Medical, I-864, etc.) is filed with the district office where they live.
