Today, I received a letter from my Senator telling me that my I-485 was approved on June 15, 2006 and the GC should arrive in the mail in a couple of months. What a long journey I have been?

Started LC in April 2001, I-485 filed in Oct. 2002...stuck or not in FBI Name Check process, but actually USCIS local office messed up without updating their system, hit by visa retregression...found this wonderful forum and of course great guys here helped me a lot...began my "GC Hunting Process" FBI Name Check inquiry, letters & faxes to USCIS, Senator, Congressman, FBI whatever I could do, even thinking of filing a law suit...

Anyway, my Senator was great! I didn't expect him who would help me on my case as I heard nothing from him after I sent letter to him back in Feb. 2006.

For people around this forum, I would say don't lose any hope. Do the best you can. It's your case don't wait for it as I did for the past 3.5 years... this is a great lesson for me. Finally I was reborn and realized that I couldn't wait any longer and I have to do something. So here I am.

Good luck to you all!
Will stick around.

ps. how long does it take to receive the physical card after approval of I-485?

Mine is EB3. Online status never changed ever since I filed AR-11 with Serice Center. I guess mine is local, so no matter what I did including FP, it stays the same because it goes by the A# rather than EAC#.

here is from USCIS website:

Note: Case Status is available for Applications and Petitions which were filed at USCIS Service Centers. If you filed at a USCIS Local Office, your case status may not be reviewable online...

although I filed with VSC and case was xferred to local office, the rule applied to the above, I guess

Hearty congratulations!!!!
In my case, I received the cards within a week of approval. Did you call your local office about it?
All the best,

Congrats!
I sure hope that you also called USCIS to update your new address on the I-485. You MUST do that since the AR-11 is for tracking purposes only but will not update the address on any USCIS mailing related to your pending documents like I-485. You should have gotten your GC already and I suspect it might have been sent to the wrong mailing address (can you check your old address?).

Congratulations buzzhd!!!!
GC should arrive in couple of weeks after approval (when case is in local office), maybe one month, if your FP is current (less than 15 months old).

thank you guys!

No, I could not call local office because there is no phone#, nor did I want to bother them any more because those clerks are really not easy to deal with :D

yes, I called VSC and filed AR-11 with local office as well more than a year ago. I believe it should be fine because I did receive FP notice for my family with the latest address on it.

Yes, my FP is current till November.

Am I supposed to receive the approval notice first or it comes with GC?

I think, since you got mail to new address and FP are current - you should not worry!!!
probably approval notice will come first, then welcome letter, then actual card, but some people get things in different way (for example, everything in same day, or first the card and a week later welcome letter, or no welcome letter at all)
- just relax, do nothing, and wait for the card!

Congrats buzzhd

Yours was one of those dinosaur Name check case...good to see you out...you were holding up the NC queue...:)

Have fun...my friend.....n'joy....you have earned every bit of it.

Congratulations, buzzhd. Here is a question for you. Who was your senator and how did it take for him/her to get on your case and finally achieve this? Your story scares me because it looks like if nobody intervened with CIS on your behalf you might had to wait a few more years for them to realize they actually got FBI clearance already. It's all in the past now. Enjoy your freedom, buzz.

Well, and may be uscis works on applications from smart guys, and applications from silent guys are laid aside because of all this work :)

Starosta,
I am fearing this too. Very soon everybody will realize that the only way to get adjusted within reasonable time is to do WoM or involve a senator, and all the summonses and service requests will just double all their paperwork. I need some tranquilizers really bad. :(

Well, depends on where you are located. Mine is in NY, so obviously Charles E Schumer and Hilary Clinton. I wrote a letter to Senator Schumer back in Feb 2006 and followed by an e-mail message to him in April. Rest I don't know and neither did I ever know how they got involved and when...

So my suggestion, don't ever wait for things to happen. Do whatever you can do to get everybody involved if your case is kinda late for you.

Good luck!

I just responded to an RFE on my I-485 last week and my LUD changed yesterday and interestingly, it has been updated today as well.

Is the frequent LUD change is something to be concerned about?

Thanks for the help.

Don't worry. Something is going on with your case. So this is a good sign, at least your case is being processed. Not like mine never changes ever since I changed my address

Thanks. The LUD didn't change even for me when I updated my change of address 2 months back.

Keeping my fingers crossed.
