I think I have figured out why my name check is not cleared by FBI yet. I happed to run across an article by Leslie Miller written on January 14th, 2005. In the article, she says that FBI has extensive records of people who traveled on airplanes between June and September 2001. The fact that this article is listed on Air Traffic Control Association’s website makes it look more legitimate. I don’t know why this information is not shared with general public or why does it not show up on FOIPA request. If the report is true, my name should be on their list several times because I took several trips within the US between June and September 2001. If that’s not all, I also took an 8 day trip to Pakistan which included stops in the Middle East.

Let me know if any of you stuck in name check fit this criteria.

Yup Eric,
My husband came back from India just 4-5 days before 9-11 and his name is stuck too.

If this is the case, that explains why my security check isn't cleared yet. I made a trip to NY around Indepence Day 2001. But all I did was to see the broadway shows and sight seeing.... :o

Anything we can do? Provide pictures to show we were only sight seers?

Wait, so people here are saying anyone who got on a plane in 2001 are going to be subject to lengthy checks? Crap, I hope not.

I flew to New York in August 2001 and I even was an intern at the WTC but the IO at infopass told me that my namecheck was already cleared.

Sounds reasonable. I'd understand if they were checking on people who flew to the middle east in 2001, but not everyone, that would be crazy.

I travelled to Hong Kong for 3 weeks in August 2001 but I didn't have a problem on name check - mine was cleared 3-4 weeks after the interview.
