I'm an asylee with green card and my case was against parties my government was unable and unwilling to control . I would like to visit a country (not COP) to visit family members and have to renew my passport in order to do that , since getting an RTD is not an easy task with a wait time up to a year , plus the short validity and not being recognized by some countries . is it a good idea? what are the risks? has any of you done that?

Your case wasn't against parties the government couldn't control. Your case was based on your government being unable to protect you from said parties. What are these parties? Political, military, militia, secessionist, drug cartels, social? How much power did they have in your country? Local, state, province, federal? And how much presence do they have in other countries, especially the country you're planning to visit?
I'm not an attorney nor qualified to offer legal advice, but if those "parties" are in any way linked to your government, I don't think it would be a good idea for you to travel with your COP passport even with a green card.

If you don't want RTD because short validity, you can get a re-entry permit (RP) which is valid for 2 years and accepted by a lot of countries. I really recommend not using COP passport if you can avoid it as it will just complicate things for you. According to the latest USCIS data, as of august 2021, an application for a travel document (RTD or RP) will take around 7.3 months to process.

If you really want to use your COP passport, you need to consult with an immigration attorney to see if it will cause issues and if it will conflict with your asylum application basis.
