i lost my GC. i have to go oversea.

Forget about going abroad and call up USCIS on top priority.
Ask them if they can issue to you some document for your reenty on temperaroy basis. But I have my own doubts that they may do so due to security reasons.
I know someone who lost GC in India while visiting India. She reported to US consulate in India , and they had a replacement GC after3-4 weeks. Also this was before 9/11.

Don't panic!

You can find all of the information needed right here:`

http://uscis.gov/graphics/howdoi/replace.htm

Probably the best option to expedite obtaining your replacement card is the E-filing route:

http://uscis.gov/graphics/formsfee/forms/e-i-90.htm

Remember the I-551 stamp you got in your passport while waiting for your card in the first place? That's what you'll get in this case until your replacement card arrives. It's just as good as the card for travel purposes.

We had same problem

My W also lost her GC.

She had a replacement in approx 2 weeks - but in 3 days she had a stamp in her passport that was "as good as" a GC.

First, we e-filed ($185) I-90.

Then, we called and made an appointment. It was the next day - and only 100 miles away. They did it in an "application service center" - not at the DO.

There was very little wait and my wife was finished within 30 minutes after we arrived at the ASC - and had a stamp in her passport that they said was "as good as" a GC - good for one year (the stamp).

Her new GC arrived in the mail about 2-3 weeks later.

Don't panic! E-file today and call for interview immediately after.

Good luck.

This is an older thread but maybe someone can help me. I had the same issue as the original poster.

I also lost my GC overseas. I came back using a Letter of Transport from the US Embassy.

I got an infopass appoinment for the Newark USCIS office today and asked them for a passport stamp to travel before my replacement card arrives. I told them I had already filed the I-90 for the replacement card. --- didn't show them the biometrics appt letter I received // nor did they ask for it.

They told me (and someone else) that they only give provisional GC replacement passport stamps for medical reasons or family death. They asked the other person to give them a letter from the hospital stating the medical emergency AND the stamp is only valid for 30 days. If she wanted it for longer, the letter must say how long she will be away.

The officer went on to tell me to wait for the Biometrics Appointment and in 2-4 wks after that they replacement card would be in the mail.

I have my biometrics appointment set for Jan 24, 06. Can they provide me with a passport stamp? Can I leave the US before the GC arrives -- and have someone send it to me?

I have some travel plans. I wouldn't want to leave with at least a passport stamp but after today, I don't know if I will be able to get one. Pls help.
