My project with company "A" got over in July 31 2002. But they paid me upto Aug 20, 2002 by check.(because this company gives two weeks pay when they layoff people). Infact i worked only for three months for this company and i did not even get H1B approval notice by that time. I dont even know whether this company cancelled my H1B after that or not

But meanwhile i got a project with company "B" and i started working for them from Aug 11, 2002.. But the H1B filed by them has a receipt date from Aug 30 2002 only.. And they paid me from Aug 11 2002 to Aug 30 2002 as expenses and it was a check i think.

so am i out of status for ten days if we take account from Aug 20,2002 to Aug 31 2002

Or am i out of status for one month if we take account from July 31 2002 to August 30 2002 provided company A has sent H1B cancellation from July 31 2002 though they paid me upto Aug 20 2002...

If this is out of status will it cause any serious problem for pending I485

You have a problem only if you are out of status for more than 180 days. If less, then you can file I-485 to adjust your status and invoke section 245(i).

But you should consult an attorney to verify...

For less than 180 days it is section 245(k), not 245(i).
I think for 245k jou just can file in normal way, and mention 245k only if asked (interview). No special fee.
Sec. 245(i) is for more than 180 days and it has separate form and a fee ($1000)
