Completing August'01 looks very unlikely to me even on an optimistic note in this month. July'01 itself look the months of May/June and now July (major approval count), that means three months.
Assuming August'01 workload is 75% of July'01 and VSC has speeded up, I'd still guess, August'01 would take July'02/August'02 to complete. There were some Aug'01 approvals in June but at a trickle.

As I predicted several month ago, most probably, INS VSC will:
(1) Finish July 2001 case by end of June (this come to true)
(2) Finish August 2001 case by end of August(hope VSC won't let us down)
(3) Finish Sept. 2001 case by the middle of Oct 2002.
I have a 09/01 RD and hope to get approved no later than 10/31/02.
That's the VSC. Very slow.

1) They are still processing some july leftover cases (although only few are left).
2) They don't wait for ALL the cases to be approved before moving to next month. Usually VSC picks up the next month once half of the cases from current month are over. (there were many August approvlas in May second half)
3) No of cases for september are relatively less due to 911 so I am expecting them to start October sometime in second half of august
BTW ... CSC has already started OCTOBER cases.

some "simple" questions Regd I-485 :
1. Is it true that INS is processing August 2001
2. Approx how much time does it take nowadays.
3. Any idea when Sept 2001 will start(tentative).
4. Are there any new issues/obstacles/hassles coming up regd processing I-485.
5. Anything else after stamping. how long is the wait time after that.

1. Yes..seems like VSC is in full swing right now doing Aug cases
2. You can calculate it.. they are doing Aug cases
3.Hopefully early August (wont hurt if they start even before that)
4. Unless stock market totally wipes out.. or another significant terror act.. I do not see any
5. Gurus who are approved might know more about that.. but some say it comes within 5-6 weeks.
