Hey, guys
I just registered today but have been using your useful info for a year now. I need your advise: I've been here in the US for 7 years now and have a political asylum status. Since I can't go back to my country for a visit I wanted to know if I can send my parents an affidavit of support for a visitors visa. I have a good job but I don't have the Green Card (of course, still waiting).
And second question:
Can I play the Diversity Visa Lottery, in other words, are we asylees awolled to play. Thanks in advance.

P.S. If it weren't for this forum I would've still paid for EAD.thanks

Yes you can submit the affidavit of support. The issuance of the tourist visa to your parents is, of course, up to the discretion of the Foreign Service Officer.

And yes you can play the diversity lottery if you are from an eligible country. Be sure to check (if you win) whether you are eligible to adjust status here or to able to find a consulate willing to process you.

Since ur an asyleee. You are legal status. You have the same rights as a Green Card Holder. You can apply for the lottery and if you win, Your priority changes from an asylee to a lotter winner..simple as that..YOu dont have to leave the country..SINCE UR legal!

Unfortunately asylum approval does not cancel out any previous lapses in status. So if you were out of status before receiving asylum (a common occurrence), you would not be eligible to adjust as a lottery winner.

Also if you entered on a fraudulent document in order to seek asylum, do not bother with the lottery.
