no problem - you can maintain dual status. you need EAD only if you need to switch jobs. I would get it just in case. Won't hurt.

Why do you want to use AP if you have H1B approved ( and stamped)? If your H1B is not stampted you might want to use the AP.

I don't think so it will affect anything in your H1B status. AP is just a travelling document.

Get EAD, its worth it. In our case for almost a year it was the only US based ID we had as the stupid rednecks in Tennessee stopped giving us driving licenses and instead clubbed us with the illegals, giving us a certificate of driving which was not valid as an ID. Since we didnt like the idea of carrying our passports all the time on our person, the EAD was handy while charging a credit card, boarding a plane or even entering the service center building while going for FP.
