I dont understand the FBI check...

The number of people wanted in the FBI list are not more than the GC applicants.

So Instead of INS checking with FBI and determining that the applicant is not one among the FBI wish list (which takes some months), Why dont the FBI do the check with the INS periodically. It is their job too in getting the guy!!!!

IT IS NOT THAT AN APPLICANT GETS his/her GC IS IN A MONTH OR TWO... All they got to do is to have a daily job which checks the wish list with the applicants details or something better.

Am I going nuts here???

I am just wondering "What kinda criminal will apply for GC and stay in the same place for years waiting to be caught!!!!!"

I dont know

It is probable that FBI wants more people than those on the FBI list. I think the system of looking up with the FBI works better. Obviously FBI has more work than INS actually everyone has more work than INS! FBI will not want to have the responsibility of monitoring people requesting immigration benefits. That’s probably why the memo stated that it’s the officer's responsibility to make sure that the person is clear. FBI monitors stuff from all over the world so its important to keep them focused… okay I am just Bsing now!

Stop wondering cuz this whole mess started because someone with terrorist links was given citizenship and we all know about Atta and his loser friend being given a Visa six months after their death! Also don’t forget that the Anthrax mailers are still unknown and in all possibility are still hiding somewhere in the country. In a way you cannot blame them.

My 2 cents

Sometimes I wonder whether I am in West wing when I read some of the postings .

Some people talk as if they know the whole world for the heck of talking !!!

Crazy..................:D

PatienceGC,

You know what, you may be partly right.. After that approval for Atta, it only says that there was absolutely no communication b/w INS and FBI earlier. However Now, I guess both are responsible there should be a better understanding than passing on the responsibility to INS (Department of Justice, a different body).

I agree that FBI has lots of things in their plate to worry than immigration. But if they are transferring a part of their work to an ignorant INS employee (Not to the standards of FBI), you are inviting trouble and not managing internal security.

However, I feel the check should be from the FBI (one seperate department) and just get a yeh/nay from FBI..
