I've been trying so hard to get my state Id but so far no luck. :( But then I was thinking, what if I take the I-797 appointment letter and state that INS is asking for a Government Id in order for me to enter the INS building when I go. Anyone think that'll work? :(

Just use your passport.
It's all expired, plus I dont get why they wont issue me one, I have a SS number that is registered with the social security administration. It's just not valid for employment, plus I want my state Id

Get a new passport.

What state are you in? Most states require either EAD or Green Card to get a State ID/Drivers license. If you live in one of those states you're SOL.

I'm in TEXAS and yeah this is one of those states, you mean use my passport to enter the InS building?

bring your expired passport and your valid ead card and your ss card

that should be enough

what they usually need verification of is your legal name birthdate, ssn, and some kind of legal status.

on a side note you should seriously consider renewing your passport. you never know when you might need that.
