Hi. My wife and I have been living in the United States almost a year and a half ago. We came here under J1 and J2 visas respectively. I got my J1 under an international education agency who hired me as an ESL teacher and I have been working for the public schools of my county since then. My wife is a J2 and got a job as a teacher directly in the county, in other words, without the international agency. Our legal status in the country (under the J's visas) expire on 06/30/07. In our DS-2019 and our passports say that we are not subject to the two year home rule.
My question is: What can we do to stay legally in the country beyond our visas expirations? I was told that we could find a sponsor who is willing to supports in order to get the H1B visas or even Green Cards. Is that true?
If so how can we do that?
Thanks
