Hello folks,

My writing this because it is time to apply for a greencard after spending one year as an asylee. Unfortunately there are a lot of things I ignore, if you don't mind giving me some advices.
Should I hire a lawyer?
What is an estimated time it takes? (I know there is no exact time with USCIS)
Do they only offer 10.000 greencards to asylees evey year?
Can I travel out of the U.S while my greencard is in pending?
These are basic questions I wanted to ask, thank you for suggestions.

1- You don't need a lawyer to apply.
2-Processing time depends on your luck and a mood of immigration officer in charge of your case. Some people get green card after 3 months,6months.Other people 1 year and more.
3-Asylees now get Green card like other applicants. No more 10.000 Geen cars a year for asylees. Thanks president Bush who worked on this issue and asked congress to erease this damn in 2004
4 Yes you can travel abroad using Refugee travel Document while your case is pending. But don't stay longer outside because you can miss some appointments like fingerprint, medical.
Good luck.
