Hello,

As stated in the thread title, I'm interested in immigrating to the US. One of the things that I've heard is that a demanded profession helps receiving citizenship. Is that correct? and if so, what are demanded professions in the US these days? I'm young and just about to start my university studies.

Another thing I've heard is that service in the US Army for a certain period of time grants citizenship... is this for real? I already did service in my country, and I fit in well there. If serving the US will give me citizenship, I'd gladly do it.

Thank you everyone.

You are skipping right to citizenship. Citizenship comes after your green card. You have to have your green card to serve in the army. You cannot just come to the U.S. and join up.....

To join the Army, Marine Corps, Navy, Air Force, National Guard or any Reserve Components you have to be legally admitted as a Permanent Resident or be a US. Citizen.
And there is another way ONLY for ARMY for those who are LEAGALY in US for at least 2 years and who can fluently speak Pashto, Dari, Farsi, Urdu can join US Army under special program. Program ends December 1 of this year.
Department of Defense is not part of USCIS and can't assist you or sponsor you to get immigration visa or citizenship. The current law allows Non-citizen who serving in the Military to apply for early (expedite) citizenship.

The demanded profession thing sounds like immigration to Canada. Have you given some thought to immigrating into Canada? It is easier than the US. Otherwise you could try to get into a US university to study a Master's degree and then try to get yourself hired by a company that could sponsor your immigration.

I think he thinks he can just come over, join the military, and obtain citizenship. He doesn't understand the long process of permanent resident status(espically without a U.S. citizen relative).
