I am confused about EAD

I have got RFE a month ago on my I-140 (EB1a), notice is lost in mail from last month and have not received yet, First EAD has expired, H1 is valid from university which is not subject to cap but now donot have job. Should I get an EAD. Applying through efiling would be quick or by mail. Can some one help

I donot have lawyer.
 
If you have an RFE on your I-140 or your I-485 you can not apply for an EAD until that is cleared up first. USCIS will halt processing if you have already filed the EAD.
