Hi,
I am thinking of applying political asylum. I know, it is a big decision. My opt is expiring soon. I am of fear that if i go back home, I will be prosecuted. Is it right time to file to file political asylum?. What will happen, if my case will be rejected?. Will I be able to go back to my F-1 status?.

I know of a friend who was on F-1 and applied for asylum,was refered to an IJ,the IJ looked at his case and advised him to drop his case(I think he had a weak case and very little evidence) and maitain his F-1 status.He did just that,but later on met his current wife who happens to be a USC,they got married,needless to say that he later on changed his status from F-1 to LPR through her.
