i'm a french citizen, living and working in the U.K., i work in the field of visual arts. In the past 2 years i have entered the U.S. for more than 10 times on waiver visa. (my passport is full of stamps!) On each trip, my stays resumed from a few days to a couple of months -if i remember correct, and of course i have never ever overstayed!
On my last trip in March to spend just a weekend of 3 days in Miami, instead of having my passport being stamped as usual, i got a bad surprise of having been given an orange folder and been sent to the 'room'! the CBP officer told me "It's to check something out...".
Once in the room, after having been waiting for at least a half hour i had to speak there to another CBP officer, right at the counter infront of all the other 'irregulars' sitting there, waiting for their fate.
His first question was: "why are you coming to the U.S.?" I told him the same story I told previously to the CBP officer at the booth: when was my last visit to the US, for how long and why i come here for this time.
I have never lied to CBP officers, i come to the US mostly to meet my business partners and to spend good time in New York that i love so much! Furthermore, i got into a relationship with an american citizen, who is now my gf and now the purposes of my trip are even more tied to her, she is also coming often to visit me in europe. This time, i have got my passport stamped by the CBP officer in the 'room' and got admitted, with an advise to get my american 'gf' married to avoid this kind of 'problems'.
Now, i will be flying to NY today again, and i really fear of what will be my fate at the Newark immigration... ! I was told by an immigration lawyer that now the CBP will be trying to look forward if i'm not missusing the WVP status. Which in any case i'm not missusing. I'm not looking forward to work in the US, i come to nyc to enjoy the free time i have and i can totally afford that.
anybody else is in the similar situation?
