I-94 verification problem

Sorry to post this at the H1 thread..Thought someone might have had this experience before......

My brother is on a student visa (J1). He came into the country on June 2nd. He went to the social security office to apply for his social security card and they told him that his they failed to verify his I94 number with the INS online.

Has anyone faced this problem before ? What are the consequences? Please respond immediately? Thanks.

It means that INS does not have I-94 details into their computer system yet. He should go again to SSA office in 3-4 weeks and try again.
