I-94 no

Hello
I was wondering that everytime we come back into the country, do we get a new I-94 no or the number remains the same. i.e even though the number on the new I-94 is different, we have to scratch that out and write the old one.
I am confused because my earlier I-20 had my I-94 number and when I came back, the officer wrote the same old number on new card scratching out the new number.
Could anyone check their I-94s and tell me if they also have the same situation like I have.
Thank you.

number remains same if you're student

if you're entering as a student, then you're supposed to use the same I-94 number. i was on F-1 for 6 years and went through the same thing several times.

so next time you go out and are coming back on F-1, you can cross out the number printed on the I-94 card and use the one you already have. or you can just wait and let the immigration officer do it. but basically, you have nothing to worry about... :)

thanks,

sarmad :)

Thanks a lot Sarmad

Yes I was a student when I entered (have done it only once) but now I am not a student. When I checked my records, I found the same number so was a bit worried. Incidentally when I changed to H1 status, I got a new I-94 from INS but it does not have any I-94 number on it
i guess that should be okay since I have renewed AP/EAD twice and on my way to third now.
