I-9

Hi friends,
I need a suggestion.
My wife is working on her approved 7th year H1. We got our EAD cards just last week and we did not apply for AP.
There are chances of layoffs in her company in the coming weeks.
I was told by a friend that she should fill the form \'I-9\' and give it to her company so that the H1 is cancelled and her EAD resumes.
This will keep her in status just in case of layoffs.
Is that true? Any opinion/suggestions are welcome

thanks.

I-9 have nothing to do with maintaining immigration status. I-9 is required when you accept any kind of employment in US. The purpose is to verify your eligibility to work legally in US. Once your employment is terminated, H1-b ends. You are still in status since you have EAD. EAD is valid until expire or revoked by INS.
