I-864 Quagmire

I have – I believe – a unique situation. Hope some of the enlightened people here can provide guidance…

My wife and daughter had their interview in Mumbai a couple of weeks back. My income is limited so a friend provided I-864. Since his income was enough we did not go for I-864 A from his wife (Additional Household Member). All went well at the interview, but the visa was not stamped pending the I-864 A from my friends wife. My family was told to submit the form and get the visa stamped. Now my friends wife has refused to provide the I-864 A. As a result of this, I need help to sort out the issue.

1 – I have a relative that is willing to provide the I-864 and I-864 from the spouse. However, their income is slightly below the125% poverty guidelines. Can I use yet another friend to augment the income? If so, will I need to send the sponsors’ information to NVC or send both the new sponsors’ documents to my wife for submission at the consulate?

2 – I have some income, is that not considered as a part of the I-864? If this can happen than my relatives’ income and mine should be ample.

3 – Assuming one of the above option works, should I submit a letter to the consulate explaining the circumstances that required us to add/change sponsors?

Will appreciate some feedback – the wait is gut-wrenching!
