Anybody knows what is I-797;

I am applying for canadian visitors visa; they are asking to send original I-797;

appreciate your input; thanks
 
They did not ask me the original. But for wife whose visa was expiring within two months they asked us new I-797 as we were going for stamping purpose. I heard that if you are going for stamping then they might ask you the original I-797 form.

In that case go personally. Where are you located?

I-797 is the general form no. for "Notice of Action."
This could be a "Receipt Notice" or an "Approval Notice" or a "Transfer Notice" or anything else that you receive from BCIS in response to an appl. Probably they are asking for the "Approval notice" here.

thanks both; i am based in Columbus OH; i am planning to apply through regular mail; going to Yukon in Canada;

I do have approval notice for EAD; i will use that for I797;
