I-765 & waiting for GC

I am currently on H1b and am waiting for my GC. In the meantime if I do wish to change employer or work for another company I am restricted by H1b.

Is my understanding correct here ?

1)
If I file form I-765 I can receive temporary authorization to work anywhere.

2) It typically takes about 11 weeks to approve this and I do not need to go for an interview.

3) I can still maintain my H1b with my current employer and work with any other company as I have filed for I-765.

If this is true then.
I intend to file for I-765 and then continue my work for the current employer on H1b and work elsewhere on the basis of I-765.

I am taking this step because I am not clear how long the GC will take. I had applied in May 2007 and my interview got approved in Aug 2007

1) Correct

2) Yes, give or take a couple of weeks. (INS is mandated to issue it within 90 days of your application.)

3) Please clarify, are you intending to work in your H-1B job and for another employer/job simultaneously? If you were to start working on your EAD and not work for your H-1B job anymore, you would lose your H-1B status. If you work for them simultaneously, it's a more interesting question ... you still maintain the employer relationship, however I don't think H1-B status would allow you to work other than as specified in the LCA, therefore I would think once you use EAD, even if you keep your H-1B job in addition, you're not in H-1B status anymore. But, I know people can have multiple H-1Bs simultaneously also, so I don't know if H-1B job + EAD in another job would preserve H-1B status.

Thank you austriacus,
for your quick response. I couldn't respond earlier as I was away

Point 3)

I am currently maintaining H1b by working here. The reason I need the Employment authorization is because I wish to open a consultation company (LLC).
