I got my greencard in 12/99, applied I-751 to remove conditional residency in 10/01. Till now, I haven\'t recieved any letter from INS informing the application is getting processed.
I am planning to travel to Canada this month ending and am wondering if there would be any problem as I did not receive any confirmation letter from INS that I have applied for I-751.

Please advice.

p.s. The check sent with application is processed and I find a INS reference number on it.

You should call your service center for info

Our story:

CSC:
Wife got GC 6/98. Applied for I-751 3/00, received confirmation letter a few months later with receipt number. I-751 approval letter received 11/01. Went to INS 11/01 to apply for permanent GC. Received plastic GC 12/01 good for 10 years.

We drove into Canada for vacation prior to 11/01 but we took our confirmation letter for proof. The border check patrol just asked a few questions unrelated to immigration and we drove off. If you\'re flying into Canada it\'s probably a different matter.

Bottom line, be persistent in getting through to your service center and get an official answer. I personally would feel safer if I had a confirmation letter instead of an expired GC. If you\'re driving into Canada I suppose you can take your chances and hope they won\'t check into your immigration status.

When do the GC\'s expire actually ??

Details on GC:
Resident since - 12/1999
card expires - 01/2010

applied I-751 - 10/01 (to remove conditional residency).

As I need to get my new card after applying I-751, did my present card expire as of now? (or) will it be active till I get the new one?

thanks!
