I-751 Conflicting instructions from USCIS-I'm Confused!

I sent in my I-751 about a week before the due date (Mar 9th.) i included all of the documentation and fees including photocopies of my (and my son's) GC front and back as directed on the form.

March 10 I recieved a letter addressed to my son that states that he is included on my application and that along with this letter and his GC he can travel freely and continue to live in the US for up to one year or until they respond to his application.

March 12 I recieved a letter addressed to myself that states that they have received my application and that along with this letter and my GC I can travel freely and continue to live in the US for up to one year or until they respond to his application.

March 14 I received a letter addressed to myself stating: "Your I-751 Petition to remove Conditions on Residence has not been reviewed by an Immigration Officer to determine legal sufficiency or eleigibility. In order to ensure that the case file is complete when the officer reviews it; please submit the following , if you have not already done so:

it goes on to list the items included in the package and one of them is:

"Your Permanent Resident Card ("green card"/Form I-1551) and the Permant resident card(s) of your conditional resident children...."

it goes on to say:

"Make copies of this letter and a the front and back of the green card you have. Attach the Permanent Resident card to this letter (the original) and mail to..."

I am so confused! Am I supposed to send these cards in or keep them to travel with (as stated above) and as proof (along with my letters above) that I am legally here?

Anyone heard of this or know what to do?

I wouldn't care what they ask for but i would NEVER mail your GREEN CARD. Even if they specifically ask for the ORIGINAL, i would call them first and ask for some explanation before mailing your original green card.

I think they mean attach the copy (Back and front) of your permanent residency. You can call the customer service or make an INFOPASS to clarify that. Because to travel you need your GC and the first letter...so does not make any sense to send your actual physical card.

Thanks for your responses.

My husband thinks I am "in both piles" those who got their 751 filed on time (ie the first two letters) and those who did not (letter number 3).

If he is right, letter number three is a very sneaky way to trick people into sending their GC in (therefore voluntarily surrenderring (sp?) it) to immigration. All this from a letter that lets a late filer think they are helping their cause. Do they really do this kind of stuff? Seems like a very sophisticated trick for a department that has lost my money order, sent me a GC with the wrong name and could not decide if I was being processed in Clevland or Cicinatti.

In the end, I sent the writer of letter number three a letter asking for clarification and included copies of the previous letters with the conflicting instructions highlighted. My GCs remain locked in my safe. This was weeks ago. No reply yet.
