I 551 passport stamp renewal

Does anyone on the forum know how long before the expiration of the I 551 stamp one should go to local BCIS office for renewal? I heard that it's 30 days, BCIS won't renew stamp before 30 days. I am just checking to see if anybody else has info on this.
