I-485

Hello,
I have filed for I-485 and other related forms for my husband in July, 2001. It was done by my agent and I did not receive any approval/denial papers neither did she. It passed six months now. I\'m not sure but maybe is it because me and my husband we moved from NY to NJ in September, 2001. My agent sent this special form "change of address" after one month of our move. I was thinking maybe these papers got stuck somewhere or maybe INS sent it to my old address. Is it possible? Should I call INS and ask them for the status?

Please help me!
Thank you for your time.
This is my second msg and no one answer me yet....

The first thing is that the filing should have been done by fedex or acknowledged post so u or ur attorney should have a tracking number
second the encashed cheques that where sent to INS could be retrieved either from the bank or from ur HR or from ur finance department.

The cheques would have some information on them (case numbers)

The agent or the attorney who filed the case would have a copy of the receipt notices.
After moving from NY to NJ did u file with the postal authorities a change of address form. If u had done that then mail would have been forwarded to ur new address even if INS messed up the change of address

Try to get the max information from agent/attorney asking for all copies of papers filed and all copies of notices sent by INS to agent/attorney.

I am not sure what u mean by agent. The case is generally filed by an attorney. Do u remember filing a paper naming the "agent" as ur attorney ?

Generally i would expect u to post such messages in the vermont service centre area.

I am from California service centre area and the above is to the best of my knowledge. I am not an attorney and please confirm my above advice.

Hello,

Thank u for ur advise, ok so the agent u asked me for she is not a lawyer i just called her an agent.
I didnt change the address on my old post office back in NY because I didnt want to get these commercial papers etc.
too bad for me now I see i should do that but as I mention before my agent did that she sent that form "change of address" to INS
i want to make some research on my own maybe she messed up something, she didnt send me those copies of papers and checks yet. Is there any tel# that I can call and ask INS that they actually recived my papers?
thank u again

well first thing - who has issued the cheques - whoever has issued the cheques can check will his bank for copy of encashed cheques

second call up ur agent and ask her for copies of receipt notices
third go to post office and fill form so that mail is forwarded to new address - At least by doing this u will be able to get new mail
The INS has different systems and sometimes the new address is not correctly updated in all the systems.
Hence the notices and courtesy copies are sent to attorney.
Find out from agent who gets all papers - does this come to the "agent"

also - it is very important that u act soon because if INS has sent a notice for fingerprinting and u do not get it done in time they will consider that ur case is abandoned.

Go visit the agent and treat this matter as most urgent

If it is VSC

u should have your FP Notice by now . Act fast .
I am surprised your email was ignored last time .

good luck !
