I-485 without birth certificate?

Can I submit my I-485 without my birth certificate or will that end up in my getting an RFE? ... I thought that having a passport which is gov't issued ID with D.O.B. is more than enough but maybe I'm wrong?

Anyone know how I can get a birth certificate from the UK when I live in the US?... Don't even know where to begin on that one... Thanks.

From the instructions for I-485:

Initial Evidence.

You must file your application with the following evidence:

Birth certificate.

Submit a copy of your foreign birth certificate or other record of your birth that meets the provisions of secondary evidence found in Title 8, Code of Federal Regulations (CFR), 103.2(b)(2).

Yes, you need a birth certificate. You can order them online from various places, include this one, which is the official UK government website for doing so:

OK, figured out that if I need one I can order it from http://www.gro-scotland.gov.uk ... If I do need to submit a copy of my birth cert. do you think a faxed copy would be sufficient with the initial I-485 application and I have the original copy when I go for the interview?
