I-485 transfer and interview

I have my I-485 (based on NIW) filed in April 2001 to TSC, and then I moved to NJ from NC in July for my job. I changed our address to a friend's address in my original city to avoid transfering our case to VSC afraid of delaying our I-485 application. We have done our fingerprints in May this year, and just knew that our cases have been transferred to Charlotte office for interview.

I have a few questions about my situation:

1. will immigration officer notice that my address is in NC, but I am working in NJ?
2. If he notices this, will this be a problem?
3. If this is a problem, what might be the consequence?
4. How about I change the address with INS now to our new address in NJ, will this solve the problem?
5. If we change address to NJ, will INS transfer our case to VSC or local district office for interviewing here, or our case will still be with Charlotte office?
6. We worry about if we change the address to here, this would further delay our case since it may take several months to simply transfer cases. so what is your opinion on this matter?

Please give more details of your case.

Is you Fingerpringt date May 3 or May 31, or other date? I think Charlotte local office is very slow in scheduling the intervew date. Anyway, I suggest you change your address now. The main reason is the recent law requiring immigrants to notify INS in 10 days of changing address. You will definitely need to bring employment letter to the interview. If the IIO finds you moved to another state and your address is not consistent, you may be in trouble.

You need to notify the INS support center in Washington (I do not know the exact address. You need to fill a form.) about the address change. Also you can notify Charlotte local ofice and ask them to transfer your case to your area office. I think most likely your current local office is much faster.

Good luck.
