I 485 Receipt

My lawyer has sent I485/I140 on September 1st 2006. Does someone know how long it should take to receive the receipt? I am waiting for this receipt because I need to travel and I am still on H1B

2 weeks max. But the receipt will not help you travel. YOu will need to wait for your I 131 (Advance Parole) docs to be approved to be able to travel.

That is not altogether true. Receipt will definitely not help jdrai travel, but if he/she has a valid H1B stamp in the passport, he/she can use that to travel. Otherwise, you are right, an approved AP is required.

Also, receipts have been know to sometimes take longer than 2 weeks to arrive.
