I-485 questions from new user

What are my I-485 options? Help appreciated :)

Hello all, I am a new use to this forum.

My question are in parts, so please bear with me :) First, a bit of info about myself.

I am a 28 year old nonimmigrant son of a US citizen. My I-130 was approved last year, but so far I have not been able to file I-485 because a visa number was not available to me. Since than, my mother has become US citizen (May of this year) and my family-sponsored preference has moved up from 2A to 1st on the visa bulletin. However, it seems I still cannot file a I-485.

my questions:
1. According to the visa bulletin, the Visa availability for 1st preference family is set at Jan 01, 2000 for July. However, from October 2005 to June of 2006, the Visa availability was for dates on or before April 22 of 2001! Is it normal for this date to regress like this? The receipt date on my I-797c NOA is July 2, 2001, and the priority date is April 25, 2001, so I am anxious to see this date move forward, not vice versa.

2. As the priority date on my I-797c NOA is April 25, 2001, shall I file my I-485 as soon as the visa bulletin posts any date past this date? Or, is it advisable to file my I-485 now, even though a visa number is not yet available, and my I-485 will sit on a shelf until my visa date is up?

3. Before I file my I-485, am I supposed to find a Civil Surgeon myself and get the medical exam done so I can file the I-693 together with the I-485? Or am I supposed to file the 485 first and wait til INS assigns a medical exam for me? I am getting conflicting reports

4. Finally, what are my chances of being approved for I-485? I came to the US legally on a visitor's visa in 1989 when I was only 11, but after that my parents thoughtlessly let my visa expire. Since than, I was denied I-485 first time when I filed with my mother because I was over 21. But right after she became a PR she filed a I-130 for me and it was approved, and after that she became a US citizen so I am about to file the 485. Are my chances less than perfect because I was out of status for many years? The lawyers we've consulted over the years don't think so, but I would like any opinions on this.

Thank you all for any replies.

Regarding your question 4: I'm in the same boat. US citizen parents and me being out of status, then applying for GC. The good news is, my lawyer said its OK she has personally know many people with the same experience. You are sure to get your GC app approved.

Question for everyone:

My parents (who are US citizens) will be applying for my GC in January 2007. Roughly, after how long will I get my GC?

Thanks!
